Dubai & Legacy

A legacy of vision, enterprise & transformation

Dubai's story is one of transformation — from a coastal trading community shaped by fishing, pearling and maritime trade into one of the world's most recognized centres for commerce, investment, tourism and international business.

Dubai

From the Creek to the world

Dubai's historic Creek played an important role in the emirate's development as a centre for fishing, pearling and sea trade. By the beginning of the 20th century, Dubai had developed into a successful port city.

Today that same spirit of enterprise defines a globally connected centre for business, investment, trade, tourism and international partnerships.

The Al Maktoum Legacy

Ruling Dubai since 1833

The Al Maktoum family has ruled Dubai since 1833, when members of the Bani Yas tribe led by the Maktoum family settled around Dubai Creek.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Dubai embarked on a remarkable period of infrastructure and economic development. His vision helped transform Dubai from a small trading settlement into a modern port and commercial centre. The UAE Government describes Sheikh Rashid as a key figure in the development of modern Dubai.
